Community service is an important part of student life at the Mandell School. Our community service projects and initiatives are a way for us to reinforce through action our philosophical blueprint. Throughout our early childhood division there are a number of initiatives involving both parents and children that are designed to support the local community. However, beginning in the Kindergarten class, community service becomes a unit of study and remains an essential part of the children's curriculum through the eighth grade year.

Each year, students will select a community service project that they will be responsible for developing and implementing. Each community project must include three basic elements: Education, Action, and Outreach. Students problem solve how to run their project, with the support of Mandell teachers and staff.

The questions posed while creating our project include: How can we scope our project so that we do something during the course of one year that is going to have an impact? How are we going to divide up labor? How will the project be financed? How will we get the word out about our project? How do we get other people in our community and other schools involved?
